How MidwifeProof Works
Our Principle
We publish only what public government data supports, cited to source, and link out to authoritative registries for anything we cannot verify ourselves. We don't rank, rate, or endorse individual midwives, and we don't sell leads.
Data Sources
NPPES (National Plan and Provider Enumeration System)
Published by CMS as a public bulk file, updated monthly. Contains every US healthcare provider with an NPI. Distinguishes CNM (Certified Nurse Midwife), CM (Certified Midwife), and CPM (Certified Professional Midwife).
State Licensing Boards
Each state board maintains license status and public disciplinary actions. Note that midwife licensing varies significantly by state — CPMs and CMs are regulated differently across jurisdictions. We link every profile to the appropriate board.
What We Publish, and What We Don't
We publish (from NPPES only):
- Provider name and credential (CNM / CM / CPM)
- NPI number and taxonomy code
- Practice address and phone number
- NPI enumeration date and years since enrollment
We do NOT publish, claim, or verify:
- License status or disciplinary history (link to state board)
- Clinical years of experience (NPPES only knows the NPI issuance date)
- Practice name for individual NPIs
- Hospital privileges, birth-center affiliations, home-birth suitability
- Trust scores, quality rankings, or endorsements
- Medical advice
